Temple Continues Mastery Over GW Volleyball, 3-1

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The GW Volleyball team lost for the 10th straight match, and the 14th straight meeting with Temple, Friday night in Philadelphia. The Owls defeated GW by the scores: 30-22, 30-24, 27-30, 30-25 in a two-hour, five-minute Atlantic 10 match at McGonigle Hall.

Neither team was particularly efficient on offense. The Colonials managed just a .059 percentage with 52 kills and 40 errors but the Owls weren't much better with a .130 percentage on 61 kills while committing 34 errors. The Owls even spotted the Colonials 11 points on service errors.

The loss dropped the reeling Colonials to 4-18, 1-8 in the A-10 while Temple improved to 10-14, 7-1.

GW junior Lindsey Vernand led the Colonials with 13 kills but also committed 14 errors for a -.018 hitting percentage. Vernand also added 20 digs, three blocks and a service ace.

GW junior Shannon Parks recorded 11 kills and setter Kaimana Lee assisted on 43 kills. Sophomore Kelly Kabbes hit .312 with eight kills and three errors in 16 swings.

Temple freshman Yue Liu led the Owls with 17 kills and had 16 digs. Teammate Zhen Jia Liu added 14 kills and a match-high 21 digs.

The loss completed the season sweep by the Owls who also defeated GW in a five-game thriller at GW on Oct. 2.

GW remains in Philadelphia Saturday for a 5:00 p.m. match with La Salle at Tom Gola Arena.
