Box Score

KINGSTON, RI - The GW volleyball team squandered 6-0 leads in each of the first two games before dropping both by 30-28 scores and coming up short, 30-27, in game three to lose an Atlantic 10 match Friday night in Rhode Island. URI's blocking was the difference as the Rams recorded a season-high 14 total blocks (24 assists, two solo) compared to three total blocks for GW.

Rhode Island trailed 6-0 in both the first and second games and had to overcome a 17-9 GW lead in the first game and a 16-9 deficit in the second game. In the third game, the two teams battled back-and-forth before the Rams pulled away in the end for a 30-27 victory.

Freshman Lindsey Vernand led all players with a match-high 19-kill, 10-dig double-double. Senior Ruth Lazzari also recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs, while Sarah Hokom had 14 kills while hitting .256 with eight digs. Senior setter Lauren Dunning also assisted on 45 of GW's 49 kills and added 10 digs and a pair of service aces.

URI junior Kaleena Miller led the Rams with a double-double of 13 kills and 12 digs. In only her second full match at outside hitter this season, Miller hit .345 with just three errors in 29 total attacks. Junior Beatriz Arana also reached double figures in kills with 11, hitting .250 with four errors in 28 attacks.

GW (18-6, 6-3 A-10) plays the A-10's other Rams, Fordham, in a 4:00 p.m. matinee Saturday in the Bronx.
