Volleyball Completes Season Sweep of Fordham, 3-0

BRONX, NY - The GW volleyball team A-10 defeated Fordham, 30-24, 30-25, 30-19 Saturday at venerable Rose Hill Gym in the Bronx. Senior Sarah Hokom pounded a match-high 17 kills and hit. 342 as the Colonials bounced back from Friday's loss at Rhode Island.

The Colonials got another strong effort from sophomore Lindsey Vernand who hit. .344 with 13 kills in 32 attempts and added 11 digs. Senior setter Lauren Dunning led all players with 20 digs and 35 assists. GW freshman Kelly Kabbes had an errorles match hitting .700 with seven kills in 10 swings in the one-hour, 22-minute match.

The victory improved GW's conference record to 7-3 and third place in the A-10 standings.

As a team, GW hit .231 (50-19-134) compared to Fordham's .104 (39-25-135). For the second straight match, the Colonials were out-blocked, 10-6. It marked GW's 12th straight victory over the Rams. GW's last loss to Fordham came during the 1997 season.

The Rams (8-19, 1-9 A-10) were led by April McArthur's 10 kills and Jamee Stimson's 13 digs

GW (19-6, 7-3 A-10) will try for its 20th victory of the season Friday, Nov. 7 when it faces Xavier at 7:00 p.m. in Cincinnati. The Colonials remain in Ohio to play league-leader Dayton on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 5:00 p.m. GW split with the Ohio teams in October dropping a close five-game match to Dayton while winning an equally close five-gamer over the Musketeers.
