George Washington Sweeps Away La Salle 3-0

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington Women's Volleyball team returned to action Friday night and swept conference foe La Salle for the second time this season. The Colonials won by the scores of 25-21, 25-16, 27-25 and won for the 10th time in their last 12 games. The team improved to 17-10 overall and an 8-4 mark in A-10 conference play.
Sophomore Leah Hill led the squad with 16 kills and senior Liz Moult finished with nine kills. Freshman Alyssa Valentine once again led the way with 36 assists and senior Maggie Wright led the squad with 16 digs.
The first set was a close one and was tied at 17 before the Colonials pulled away with four straight points to push their lead to 21-17. This proved to be the difference as George Washington ended up winning the set 25-21. Hill finished off the set with a kill and gave the Colonials the early lead.
The Colonials came out firing in the second set and built a lead of 14-2 before being able to coast the rest of the way. Senior Jackie Yaniga really got George Washington going with her powerful serves that constantly kept the Explorers off balanced in the set. While La Salle was able to fight back somewhat in the set, the closest they got to was 19-10 en route to the 25-16 defeat.
The third set proved to be highly competitive where the Colonials got a very strong effort from the La Salle attack. The match was close throughout, with no team gaining a lead of over four points. La Salle took a 25-24 lead late in the match, but Valentine came up with a big service ace and a kill by Yaniga gave the Colonials a 26-25 advantage. Sophomore Hannah Stuart provided the clinching service ace to give the Colonials the set and match victory.

The Explorers were led by Amy McKeon, who finished with 13 kills and a .476 attack percentage. Carly Conlon led the way with 26 assists and Danielle DiMarco finished with 11 digs.
The Colonials will return to action on Sunday, November 16 when they host the Temple Owls at the Smith Center. The match is set for a 2:00 p.m. EST start and will include a pregame ceremony to honor seniors Maggie Wright, Liz Moult and Jackie Yaniga.
