Volleyball Clinches No. 3 Seed in A-10 Tournament With 3-1 Victory Over Fordham

WASHINGTON, DC - The GW Volleyball team clinched the No. 3 seed in the Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championship Tournament and completed a regular-season sweep of Fordham Friday by defeating the visiting Rams, 26-30, 30-20, 30-24, 30-21, at Smith Center. GW junior Sarah Hokom (Caldwell, ID/Caldwell) led all players with 24 kills with 16 digs.

GW freshman Lindsey Vernand (Huntington Beach, CA/Huntington Beach), playing before her family, hit .293 with 17 kills and 13 digs . GW junior Ruth Lazzari (Seal Beach, CA/Connelly) also double-doubled with 16 kills and 20 digs in the one-hour, 50-minute match.

The victory completed a regular season sweep of the Rams. GW also defeated Fordham, 3-2, on Oct. 20 in New York. GW has won the last nine meetings with Fordham on the volleyball court.

Fordham (11-19, 3-10 A-10) was led by Roxanne Hill's 17 kills while teammate Beth Crockett added 11 kills and 10 digs. The Rams defense tallied 15 total blocks.

The Colonials' defense was solid digging 96 Ram attacks to go with six total blocks.

GW (18-11, 8-5 A-10) closes out the regular season Saturday with a home match against Rhode Island beginning at 7:00 p.m. URI dropped a 3-1 decision to Duquesne Friday night in Pittsburgh.
