Final Stats

ST. LOUIS, MO -- The third-seeded GW volleyball team dominated the No. 6 seed Fordham, 3-0, in the opening round of the 2008 Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championship Friday at Saint Louis University's Chaifetz Arena Pavilion. The Colonials needed just 90xx minutes to end the Rams' season by the scores 25-22, 25-19, 25-7.

GW swept all three meetings between the teams this season. It marked GW's first A-10 Tournament victory since the 2002 season when the Colonials posted a 1-1 record defeating Dayton, 3-1, before losing to Temple, 3-1, in the semifinal. GW coach Jojit Coronel's teams are now 4-3 in the A-10 Tournament.

GW junior Katie Butz led the way with a match-high 14 kills with just one error for a .591 hitting percentage. She was nearly matched by Abby Syverson's .545 hitting percentage on 7 kills in 11 swings with just one attack error. Senior Liz Moult added 10 kills and hit .409 with a solo block.

Fordham ends its season with a 18-16 overall record. The Rams were led by Joi Gunning-Snowden's nine kills and two block solos. Setter Katherine Burrell assisted on 20 of Fordham's 30 kills and Kailee May added eight digs.

GW (19-10) will face the No. 2 seed, Dayton (20-10, 11-2), in the first semifinal match Saturday at 6:30 p.m. (EST) at St. Louis. Live streaming and stats are available on the Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championship Home Page. The winner advances to the championship final Sunday at 2:00 p.m. (EST).
