WASHINGTON - The George Washington volleyball team reported to the Charles E. Smith Center today for the official start of its 2013 campaign.
Seven returning letterwinners were joined by seven incoming student-athletes to kick off preseason on Friday. The Colonials participated in team meetings, physicals and weight room work in addition to a photo shoot ahead of Saturday's inaugural practice session.
"It was great to welcome the team back to campus today as we prepare for this upcoming season," said Head Coach Amanda Ault. "The girls have reported in excellent shape both physically and mentally and we are eager to hit the courts tomorrow morning for our first practice."
The Colonials will practice twice a day for two weeks beginning with Saturday's session.
Preseason will conclude on Saturday, Aug. 24, with the annual Buff & Blue Scrimmage at the Smith Center.
The scrimmage, which will begin at 12 p.m., will be open to the public. Fans are encouraged to attend to see the Colonials in action on the newly designed Larry "Tex" Silverman Court and get a sneak peek of the team ahead of the season-opening GW Invitational, Aug. 30-31, at Smith Center.
