Volleyball's Sarah Hokom Wins A-10 Player of the Week Award
Sept. 9, 2002 WASHINGTON, DC - Junior Sarah Hokom (Caldwell, ID/Caldwell) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week for volleyball, the league office has announced. Hokom's outstanding play resulted in her selection to the All-Tournament team at last weekend's GW Volleyball Invitational in a vote by the head coaches of the five participating teams. The 5-foot-11 Idaho native was instrumental in helping GW to a 3-1 record in the four-match tournament with victories over Radford, Liberty and Morgan State. Hokom posted a double-double with 15 kills and 17 digs in GW's 3-1 loss to Rutgers Saturday. She hit .533 with 18 kills in 30 attacks while committing just two errors in GW's 3-0 sweep of Radford Friday. Hokom's statistics for the week: four matches, 14 games, 50 kills, 16 errors in 133 attacks for a .256 hitting percentage, seven service aces, 10 assists and four block assists. She averaged 3.57 kills and 3.64 digs per game for the week.
Hokom and the Colonials (5-2) travel to Boise, ID, Friday, Sept. 13-14, to compete in the two-day Boise State Invitational. In a homecoming of sorts for Hokom and teammate Katie Downey (Caldwell, ID/Caldwell), GW will face Boise State Friday and will play Eastern Washington and No. 8 Utah on Saturday at the BSU Pavilion.
