Volleyball Returns Home to Host GW Tournament
Colonials to face Holy Cross (2 p.m.) and Delaware (7 p.m.) on Friday and UMBC (2:30 p.m.) on Saturday
SCHEDULE ALERT: Due to a travel issue, the 10:00 a.m. match will now be played at 2:00 p.m. The GW Tournament will now commence at 12:00 p.m. with UMBC facing Delaware.
LEADING OFF: The Colonials return home for their final non-conference tournament of the season as they host the GW Tournament on Friday and Saturday at the Charles E. Smith Center.
The Buff and Blue will open the tournament against Holy Cross on Friday morning at 2:00 p.m. before a night match against Delaware at 7:00 p.m. The tournament wraps on Saturday afternoon when GW faces UMBC at 2:30 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: GW had a busy weekend by playing four matches over two days in two different cities in North Dakota. The Colonials split a pair of matches, beating South Dakota State, at the UND Classic, before falling in a pair of Saturday matches at the NDSU Invitational.
FIVE WITH 50: GW's offensive attack continues to be balanced as five players have recorded 50 kills or more across the first 10 matches of the season. Sophomore Jordan Young and junior Kelsey Clark are the early team leaders with 70 and 67 kills, respectively.
DOUBLE-DOUBLES: GW players have recorded 10 double-doubles on the young season with five different players achieving the feat. Sophomore Jaimeson Lee recorded two last weekend to bring her team-leading total to five while fellow setter Stacey Benton has registered a pair, including a 14-assist, 10-dig performance in last Friday's win against South Dakota State.
Young registered her first career double-double with 15 kills and 13 digs against Appalachian State while freshman Callie Fauntleroy earned the honor with 14 kills and an outstanding 10 blocks against LIU Brooklyn on September 2.
LOOK AHEAD: GW will play a midweek, non-conference game on Tuesday night when it hosts UMES (7 p.m.) before opening its Atlantic 10 Conference schedule next weekend with matches at La Salle and Rhode Island.
