Volleyball's Sarah Hokom Named A-10 Player of the Week

Sept. 15, 2003

WASHINGTON, DC - Senior Sarah Hokom (Caldwell, ID/Caldwell) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week for volleyball for the second straight week, the league office has announced. Hokom is coming off an MVP performance at last weekend's Clarion Suites Volleyball Invitational, her third straight all-tournament selection-and second straight MVP honor-in as many tournaments this season.

A senior co-captain, Hokom has been instrumental in GW's fast start this season. Hokom was named MVP of the Clarion Suites Invitational hosted by Rutgers Friday and Saturday. She averaged nearly five kills per game and recorded a pair of identical double-doubles with 20 kils/12 digs against St. Peter's and 20 kills/12 digs against Rutgers.

Earlier this season, the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District II selection was named to the All-Tournament team at George Mason University's Patriot Invitational Aug. 30 and was voted the GW Invitational MVP by the participating coaches.

Hokom's statistics for the week: three matches, 11 games, 54 kills (4.91 kpg) and 12 hitting errors in 91 attempts for a .462 hitting percentage, six assists, one service ace, 26 digs (2.36 dpg) three block solos and seven block assists.

Hokom leads the team in blocking with 24 total blocks and is second on the team in kills (104), service aces (12) and digs (95).

The Colonials (9-0, 27-5 games record) travel to Georgetown Tuesday to face the Hoyas in a 7:00 p.m. match. A victory over GU would give GW it's fastest start in the 28-year history of the program.
