GW Volleyball Returns Home for Alumni Weekend, Hosts Towson on Sunday
Colonials Conclude Non-Conference Schedule Against Local Rival Tigers
Sept. 27, 2013
WASHINGTON - The George Washington volleyball team returns home for the first time in a month to conclude its non-conference schedule against Towson on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Charles E. Smith Center.
GW (5-8) is coming off of a 1-2 weekend at the Huskie Invitational. Junior Kelsey Newman was named to the All-Tournament Team after leading the team in kills over the weekend as the Colonials defeated Western Illinois, but fell to Northern Illinois and IPFW.
Freshman Chidima Osuchukwu continues to impress in her debut season. The Virginia Beach, Va., native ranks third in the Atlantic 10 with a .330 attack percentage and ranks second on the team with 98 kills through 13 matches. She also leads the team and ranks ninth in the conference with 1.02 blocks per set after totaling 49.0 rejections so far this season.
Sophomore Maddy Doyle is digging balls at a rate of 4.65 per set, which ranks second in the Atlantic 10 and 60th overall in Division I.
The Colonials are 11-1 all-time against Towson following a five-set victory in the last meeting on September 19, 2009.
GW is 1-2 this season and 20-7 all-time at home under head coach Amanda Ault.
The Colonials will be holding special alumnae events as part of the university's Alumni Weekend. On Saturday, the volleyball program will host an Alumnae Match in which past Colonials will lace up and take to the court against the current student-athletes on the roster. The match will take place on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m. and is free to the public to attend.
All volleyball alumnae are also invited to Sunday's match against Towson. Prior to the match, the volleyball coaching staff will host a meet and greet in the Colonials Club beginning at 11:30 a.m.
