Volleyball Wraps Road Swing at American on Wednesday

Oct. 10, 2017

LEADING OFF: The GW volleyball team will play the finale of a seven-match road swing on Wednesday night when it visits District rival American at Bender Arena. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: Behind a career-high 20 kills from senior Aaliya Davidson and a season-best 17 winners from freshman Marianna Warren, the Colonials rallied for a 3-2 win over George Mason in a Revolutionary Rivalry battle last Friday night.

The Colonials trailed by scores of 1-0 and 2-1 but rallied to win their seventh straight match over the Patriots.

LEADERS: Davidson's career night at George Mason elevated her season kill total to 154 to tie her with junior Kelsey Clark for the team lead.

Senior Kristel Moor (124) and sophomore Skylar Iott (111) also have crossed the 100-kill threshold with sophomore Jordan Young (98) just two kills away from achieving the century mark.

BERNSON'S RETURN: Wednesday's match will pit head coach Sarah Bernson against her old boss, American head coach Barry Goldberg. Bernson served as an assistant coach under Goldberg from 2011-16, helping the Eagles to a dominant stretch that included a five-year record of 136-36 (.795), four consecutive Patriot League championships and four trips to the NCAA Tournament.

SERIES HISTORY: GW leads the all-time series against American, 27-7, and has won each of the last three matches.

LOOK AHEAD: GW returns home for a pair of Atlantic 10 matches against conference-leading VCU (19-2, 5-0 A-10) on Friday (7 p.m.) and Davidson (8-10, 1-4 A-10) on Saturday (5 p.m.)
