WASHINGTON, DC - Freshman Lindsey Vernand (Huntington Beach, CA/Huntington Beach) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Co-Rookie of the Week for volleyball, the league office announced Monday. She shares this week's award with Xavier's Meggie Hoffman. It marks the second time this season Vernand has won the award. She also was selected on Oct. 7.

The 6-foot Californian recorded a respectable 20-20 on Oct. 19 when she slammed her career-high 24 kills to go with 20 digs in GW's 3-2 victory over Rhode Island at Kingston, RI. She hit .339 (24-5-56) for the match with a service ace and a pair of block assists.

She added 17 kills and 21 digs in GW's 3-2 victory over Fordham on Oct. 20 in the Bronx.

She is currently second on the Colonials in digs with 277 and ranks third on the team in both kills (195) and service aces (24).

Vernand's statistics for the week: two matches, 10 games, 41 kills, 10 errors in 99 attacks for a .313 hitting percentage, 41 digs, two service aces, a block solo and two block assists. She averaged 4.10 kills and 4.1 digs per game for the week.

The Colonials (13-9, 4-3 A-10) host Dayton Friday in a 7:00 p.m. match at Smith Center.
