PHILADELPHIA, PA -- GW freshman Abby Syverson (Minneapolis, MN) was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Co-Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday. She earned the honor after she scored a total of 39.0 points in GW's two matches last week, both A-10 victories over Fordham and Rhode Island. She shares this week's honor with Saint Louis freshman Whitney Roth.
In the Fordham match, she hit .570 with just one error in 19 attacks with five service aces. Against URI on Sunday, the 6-2 middle blocker recorded her career-high seven service aces, one shy of the school record for a four-game match, in leading GW past the Rams with her career-high 20.5 points.
Syverson's stats for the week: two matches, eight games, 23 kills, three errors, 42 attempts, .475 hitting percentage, 12 service aces, five digs, one block solo and six block assists, one assist for 39 total points.
GW (11-10, 4-5 A-10) travels to Maryland-Eastern Shore this Friday for a 6:00 p.m. match at Princess Anne, MD.
