Volleyball's Valentine Garners A-10 Rookie of the Week Honor

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- For the second straight week and the fourth time this season, GW freshman Alyssa Valentine (Tustin, CA) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday. The Colonials' setter earned the honor after she averaged 9.90 assists per set in helping lead GW to a 1-1 record last week. Valentine has also won the award on Sept. 2 following the first week of the season, on Sept. 15 and on Oct. 20. Friday against visiting Fordham, Valentine recorded 56 assists while assisting on a block with a pair of service aces and had six digs as GW edged the Rams, 3-2. On Sunday against Rhode Island, she scored six points on a pair of kills while recording five blocks and nine digs. She ranks sixth in the A-10 in assists per set. Valentine's stats for the week: two matches, 10 sets, 99 assists, four kills, three attack errors, 13 attempts, .077 hitting percentage, 15 digs, three service aces, one block solo and five block assists for 10.5 points. For the week, she assisted on 84 percent of GW's 118 kills as GW split a pair of A-10 matches at home. GW (12-9, 5-4 A-10) next plays at Howard (12-15) in a non-conference match on Tuesday at HU's Burr Gym beginning at 7:00 p.m.
