Temple Outlasts GW on Halloween, 3-2

    Owls Snap GW's Five-Match Win Streak
    PHILADELPHIA, PA (Oct. 31) - The Temple Owls spooked GW, 15-11, 10-15, 11-15, 15-13, 16-14, in a two-hour, 40-minute marathon on Halloween night at Temple's McGonigle Hall. The Colonials, who held a 14-12 lead in game five, dug their own grave by allowing the Owls to score four unanswered points for the come-from-behind victory. The loss was GW's second to Temple this season and dropped the Colonials into a tie with the Owls at 10-2 atop the Atlantic 10 standings.

    GW, riding a five-match (eight-game) win streak after a 3-0 sweep of Massachusetts Saturday, lost for the first time since Oct. 11 and broke a string of four straight sweeps of A-10 opponents. Temple (14-8, 10-2) came into Tuesday's match after suffering it first two losses in conference play to Dayton and Xavier.

    Atlantic 10 Player of the Week Tracee Brown again led GW (19-5, 10-2 A-10) with a team-high 28 kills while teammate while Renee Arnold added 24 kills in 51 swings for a .353 percentage to go with 13 digs. Senior Suzana Manole hit .433 with 15 kills in 30 attacks. Setter Jill Levey recorded 65 assists and a match-high 20 digs.

    Alma Kovaci was the most frightening Owl as she scared up 32 kills and 18 digs while hitting .324. Temple's Margaret Majewska added 14 kills.

    GW returns to Washington to host Xavier Friday, Nov. 3 at Smith Center followed by a Saturday match with Dayton. GW closes out the regular season at home against La Salle on Nov. 7 and Duquesne Nov. 11. The top four teams advance to the Atlantic 10 Tournament Nov. 18-19, at the University of Dayton's Frericks Center with an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament at stake.
