Volleyball's Wright Named to 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 2 Volleyball First Team

WASHINGTON, DC -- GW senior Maggie Wright has joined five others on the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 2 University Division Volleyball First Team as voted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). If marks the second straight year Wright has been named to the Academic All-District team. She was a member of the District 2 second team last year. The District 2 University Division consists of all NCAA Division I college and universities in Delaware, The District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. To be nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and starter or significant reserve for her team. A native of Cortlandt Manor, NY, Wright is the Colonials' starting libero and maintains a 3.96 GPA as a Pre-Health Professional major. Her 342 digs lead the team and her 3.96 GPA, which includes a 4.0 GPA for the Fall '05 semester, also leads the District 2 First Team members. She has appeared in all 87 of GW's sets this season and has 25 assists and 15 service aces. Wright has recorded double-figure digs in 20 of GW's 23 matches in 2008. She recorded her 1,000th career dig earlier this season and her 1,117 career digs rank 10th on GW's all-time digs list. In March, 2007, she joined teammates Jess Buche and Liz Moult in an Alternative Spring Break to New Orleans where she helped rebuild houses damaged by Hurricane Katrina in the city's upper 9th Ward as part of the Habitat for Humanity effort. The Colonials (14-9, 5-4 A-10) host Charlotte (10-15, 1-8 A-10) Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in an Atlantic 10 Conference match at Charles E. Smith Center, 22nd & G Streets, NW.
