WASHINGTON - Junior Lauren Whyte has received Capital One Academic All-District honors, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday. Whyte was named to District 2's University Division First Team.

A native of Olmstead Falls, Ohio, Whyte is the Colonials' co-captain and maintains a 3.88 grade-point average as a mathematics major. She currently ranks second in the Atlantic 10 with 3.90 kills per set and 399.0 points, while ranking third in overall kills with 395. Additionally, she has posted seven double-doubles this season and is the defending Atlantic 10 Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week.

Whyte was named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Team in 2010 and is a two-time member of the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.

First-team Academic All-District volleyball honorees now advance to the Capital One Academic All-America ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

GW (19-8, 8-6 A-10) will conclude its regular season with a pair of road matches this weekend against Rhode Island (Fri., 7 pm) and Fordham (Sat., 7 pm). The Colonials have already clinched a spot in the Atlantic 10 Championship (Nov. 18-20) in Dayton, Ohio.
