Volleyball's Janine Brown Named A-10 Player of the Week

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- Senior Janine Brown has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week for volleyball, the league office has announced. It marks her first A-10 weekly award of the season. In her final appearance at Charles E. Smith Athletic Center Nov. 9, Brown enjoyed a career night that propelled the Colonials into the 2007 Atlantic 10 Conference Championship Tournament for the first time in three years. The senior captain scored 29 points on 25 kills, had 12 digs, four blocks and an ace while hitting a season-high .455 to lift GW past visiting Charlotte and into their first A-10 Tournament appearance since 2003, all on `Senior Night.' The performance marked her 24th double-double (kills/digs) in 27 matches this season. She has scored double-figure points and pounded double-figure kills in all but one match in which she has appeared.Her 471 kills are the second-most in the A-10. Brown leads the team in points (521.0), kills (471) and digs with 374. Brown's stats for the week:one match, 4 games, 25 kills, 5 errors, 44 attempts, .455 hitting percentage, 12 digs, 3 total blocks (2 block solos and 2 block assists), and a service ace for 29 total points.
Sixth-seeded GW (13-16, 5-8 A-10) faces third-seeded Saint Louis Friday in the first round of the A-10 Tournament in Charlotte. That match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at Charlotte's Halton Arena. The winner will meet either top-seeded Dayton at 5 p.m. Saturday or second-seeded Xavier at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The winners advance to the championship final at 1 p.m. Sunday.
