Volleyball's Hokom Named to 2002 Verizon Academic All-District II Team

Nov. 15, 2002

WASHINGTON, DC - Junior Sarah Hokom (Caldwell, ID/Caldwell) has joined 11 others on the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District II Volleyball Team as voted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The District II University Division consists of all NCAA Division I college and universities in Delaware, The District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. To be nominated for the Verizon Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and starter or significant reserve or her team.

Hokom, who maintains a 3.71 GPA as a biological anthropology major, leads the Colonials in kills with 407 (4.07 kpg), service aces with 36 and total blocks with 56. She was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week in Sept. 9 and to the GW Invitational All-Tournament team Sept. 7.

Hokom and the Colonials (17-11, 7-5 A-10) host Fordham Friday and Rhode Island Saturday in the final matches of the regular season. A GW victory in either match clinches a berth in the Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament Nov. 22-23, in Philadelphia, PA.
