PHILADELPHIA, PA -- For the sixth time this season, GW freshman Alyssa Valentine (Tustin, CA) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Co-Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday. The Colonials' setter earned the honor after she assisted on 85 of GW's 99 kills (86 percent) in helping lead GW to a 2-0 record last week. Valentine has also won the award on Sept. 2 following the first week of the season, on Sept. 15, Oct. 20, Oct. 27 and on Nov. 3. She shares this week's honor with Charlotte's Leah Leventhal.
In the Colonials' 3-0 sweep of La Salle Friday, Valentine recorded 36 assists while serving three aces and had seven digs. On Sunday against Temple, Valentine assisted on 49 of GW's 58 kills and had 11 digs as the Colonials defeated the Owls, 3-1, and clinched the A-10 East Division title and the No. 3 seed in the A-10 Championship.
Valentine's stats for the week: two matches, seven sets, 85 assists (12.14 assists per set), one kill, 18 digs and three service aces for 4.5 points.
GW (18-10, 9-4 A-10) next plays Fordham (18-15, 6-7 A-10) in the opening match of the 2008 A-10 Championship tournament on Friday at 6:30 p.m. (EST) in St. Louis, MO.
