Volleyball's Sarah Hokom Named A-10 Co-Player of the Week

Nov. 18, 2002

WASHINGTON, DC - Junior Sarah Hokom (Caldwell, ID/Caldwell) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Co-Player of the Week for volleyball, the league office has announced. It marks the second time this season the Colonials' co-captain has won the honor. She shares this week's award with Rhode Island's Juliana Valencia.

It has been a good week for Hokom who on Thursday was selected to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District II Volleyball Team as voted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Last Friday, Nov. 15, Hokom and the Colonials defeated Fordham to secure the No. 3 seed in the A-10 Conference Championship tournament.

Hokom's statistics for the week: three matches, 12 games, 52 kills and 26 hitting errors in 142 attempts for a .183 hitting percentage, 12 assists, five service aces, 43 digs (3.58 dpg), five block solos and four block assists (seven total blocks). She posted a double-double (double figure kills, digs) in each match and has 18 doubles in 30 matches this season.

Hokom leads the Colonials in kills with 449 (4.12 kpg), service aces with 40 and total blocks with 64. She also was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week in Sept. 9 and was selected to the GW Invitational All-Tournament team Sept. 7.

The Colonials (18-12, 8-6 A-10) travel to Cincinnati Friday to face Dayton (22-6, 11-3 A-10) in the first round of the A-10 Tournament at Xavier University's Cintas Center. The final takes place Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Top-seeded Temple (23-6, 13-1 A-10) and No. 4-seed Xavier (16-13, 7-7 A-10) are the other teams in the tournament field.
