2009 A-10 All-Conference Volleyball Teams
NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- Senior Katie Butz has been named the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team for volleyball and freshmen Candace Silva-Martin and Lauren Whyte have been named the All-Rookie team in voting conducted among the Conference's head coaches, the league office announced Thursday. It marks the first postseason All-Conference honor for Butz. A senior right-side hitter from Columbus, OH, Butz led the Colonials in points (442.0) and kills (395) this season and is third on the team in total blocks with 79. She registered double-figure kills in 25 of GW's 31 matches. Whyte, a freshman outside hitter from Olmsted Falls, OH, was third on the team in points (341.0) and kills (312). She recorded eight double-doubles (kills/digs) this season including in each of GW's last four matches. Silva-Martin the Colonials' Libero from Fremont, CA, was voted to the seven-member All-Rookie Team after she led the team in digs with 592 for an average of 5.19 digs per set this season. Fifth-seeded GW (21-11, 8-7 A-10) faces fourth-seeded Temple Friday in the first round of the A-10 Tournament in Dayton. That match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. (EST) at Dayton's Frericks Center. The winner will meet either top-seeded Dayton at 5:00 p.m. Saturday or second-seeded Saint Louis at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The winners advance to the championship final on Sunday at 4 p.m. Sunday's final will be televised nationally by CBS College Sports.
