Volleyball's Hokom, Lazzari Voted A-10 All-Conference

Nov. 22, 2003

WASHINGTON, DC - Seniors Sarah Hokom (Caldwell, ID/Caldwell) and Ruth Lazzari (Seal Beach, CA/Connelly) were both named to the 12-member Atlantic 10 All-Conference Team for volleyball Thursday as voted by the league's eight head coaches.

Hokom leads the Colonials in kills with 383 (3.65 kpg) and blocks with 61 (58 assisted, three solo) and is second on the team in digs with 333. A co-captain, Hokom ranks third on GW's all-time career kills list with 1,142 and ninth on the career digs list with 1,055. She is a three-time Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week this season and was selected to the All-Tournament teams in each of the four tournaments in which GW competed this season. It marks her second straight All-Conference selection and she also is a two-time Academic All-District II selection.

It marks Lazzari's third consecutive Atlantic 10 All-Conference selection. This season, she has been voted to three All-Tournament teams (at George Mason, GW and Rutgers).

Lazzari leads the team in digs with 373, and is second on the team in kills with 369. Her 1,428 career digs ranks second on the all-time list, just eight digs shy of becoming the school's all-time digs leader. Her 1,117 career kills ranks fourth on the school's all-time list.

The third-seeded Colonials (21-10, 8-6 A-10) lost to No. 2 seed Dayton in the first round of the A-10 Tournament Friday at Temple University's McGonigle Hall. GW hosts American University in a 4:00 p.m. match on Wednesday, Nov. 26 at Smith Center.
