David Carson joined the George Washington water polo staff as assistant coach of both the men's and women's teams in August 2015.
In his first season at GW, the Colonials women's squad knocked off No. 22 Iona in 2016 for its first win over a ranked program in at least a decade.
Coach Carson joined the Colonials after three years as head coach of both the boys and girls teams at Wilson High School in Tacoma, Washington, where he was named the 2014 Washington State High School Coach of the Year. He is also the founder, president and head coach of the Tacoma Water Polo Club.
Carson was a two-year standout at Chapman University, where he set a single-season record with 66 assists while also scoring 43 goals as a senior in 2011. That year, he helped lead the Panthers to the most wins in program history at the time and he was named the team's most valuable player. A two-time Western Water Polo Association All-Academic Team selection, Carson still ranks fifth all-time at Chapman with 91 career assists.
Prior to his time in Southern California, Carson played two years at Santa Rosa Junior College, where he was a Second-Team All-Big 8 Conference selection and an All-Northern California honorable mention in 2009. He was also a member of the Bear Cubs' swimming and diving team.
Outside of the pool, Carson worked in Microsoft's Customer Insight Center (CIC) for two and a half years, managing social media channels for Microsoft brands. He has also spent the last year working with James Graham and Associates, a pioneer in the field of water polo analytics.
A native of Tacoma, Washington, Carson earned his associate's degree in arts from Santa Rosa Junior College in 2010 and his bachelor's degree in history from Chapman University in 2012.
