Scott Reed is in his 16th year as head coach of the water polo programs at GW. He has led the Colonials women's program to 173 victories, including nine Eastern Championship appearances, since its inception in 2000.
Coach Reed is the first and only head coach of the women's water polo team. He was named CWPA Southern Division Coach of the Year in 2003 when the Colonials won a program-record 18 games. Coach Reed earned the same honor on the men's side in 2007 after guiding GW to third place at the Eastern Championship and an end-of-season No. 17 national ranking.
With Coach Reed at the helm, 29 Colonials have been named to CWPA All-Southern Division teams. In addition, Marissa Stamler was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team in 2010 and Megan Walker was named the CWPA Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2012.
Coach Reed came to GW from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Va., where he served as the head water polo coach and as an assistant coach with the university's men's and women's swimming teams.
Reed graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1994 with a bachelor of science degree in sport management. At Massachusetts, he served as a captain on the nationally-ranked Minutemen's water polo squad and also competed on the swim team. He still owns the Massachusetts school record in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:30.65.
In addition, Reed served as a graduate assistant in aquatics at Eastern Kentucky University, where he received a master of science degree in sport administration in 1997. He also is a member of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) board of directors and won the CWPA's Southern Division Coach of the Year award in 2002-03.
Coach Reed lives in Fairfax, Va., with his wife, Allison. In March 2010, Reed was inducted into the Rhode Island Aquatic Hall of Fame. He also served on the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) board of directors for seven years. His father, Ed Reed, is the Coordinator of Officials for the CWPA. He coached at Brown for 20 years and is a member of the United States Water Polo Hall of Fame.
