Scott Reed is in his 14th year as head coach of the water polo programs at GW. He has led the Colonials women's program to 145 victories, including eight Eastern Championships appearances, since its inception in 2000.
In 2007, Reed was named CWPA Southern Division Men's Coach of the Year for guiding GW to third place at the Eastern Championship and an end-of-season No. 17 national ranking. In 12 seasons, Reed has led the GW men's team to 113 victories and three Eastern Championship appearances. He is the first and only head coach of the women's water polo team, which in 2003 won a program-record 18 games to earn Reed CWPA Southern Division Coach of the Year honors.
Reed came to GW from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, VA, where he served as the head water polo coach and as an assistant coach with the university's men's and women's swimming teams.
Reed graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1994 with a bachelor of science degree in sport management. At Massachusetts, he served as a captain on the nationally-ranked Minutemen's water polo squad and also competed on the swim team. He still owns the Massachusetts school record in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:30.65.
In addition, Reed served as a graduate assistant in aquatics at Eastern Kentucky University, where he received a master of science degree in sport administration in 1997. He also is a member of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) board of directors and won the CWPA's Southern Division Coach of the Year award in 2002-03.
Reed lives in Fairfax, VA, with his wife, Allison. In March 2010, Reed was inducted into the Rhode Island Aquatic Hall of Fame.
