GW Loses to Bucknell on First Day of Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, PA - The Colonials (2-3) lost their opening match at the Bucknell Invitational, 12-8, to the host Bison on Friday, Feb. 18. GW, ranked eighth in this week's CWPA Top 10 poll, trailed, 7-2, after two quarters and never recovered.

Senior co-captain Kendra Shanley, sophomore Jenna Burnett, and freshman Erin Bailey each contributed two goals for the Colonials. Burnett leads the club with 13 tallies on the year.

Bucknell, the sixth-ranked team in CWPA Top 10 poll, led by the score of 3-2 after the first quarter and exploded for four goals in the second period to take a 7-2 advantage at the half. GW outscored the Bison 6-5 over the final two quarters, but suffered the four-goal defeat.

Megan Gins led the Bison with six goals in the contest and Katie Hartigan added four.

GW will play twice on Saturday, Feb. 19. The Colonials will take on Wagner at 4:00 p.m. and battle Penn State Behrend at 8:00 p.m.
