PRINCETON, NJ - The George Washington women's water polo team rolled to a 14-4 triumph over Gannon in its first game, but wrapped play at the Princeton Invitational with a 10-5 loss to Harvard on Sunday.

GW falls to 2-5 on the season and will have more than two weeks to prepare for its CWPA Southern Division opener against Bucknell at Charles E. Smith Center Pool Thursday, March 11 at 7:00 pm.

The Colonials stormed out to a 5-1 lead after a quarter and never looked back against the Knights. GW led 8-2 at the break and 11-2 after three quarters en route to its largest victory of the season.

Senior Marissa Stamler led a well-balanced attack with three goals, followed by two goals apiece from senior Bernadette Karandy and sophomores Allison Peotter, Monica Hanson and Megan Walker. Hanson added three assists, while Peotter dished out two. Junior goalkeeper Charlotte Schou totaled eight saves in the win.

However, GW's offensive struggled in the late game, shooting 5-of-24 overall and 2-of-10 on the man-advantage in a 10-5 loss to the Harvard Crimson. Hanson exploded for four goals and three steals, but leading scorers Walker, Stamler and Peotter shot 0-for-13. The Colonials scored the first goal of the game, but the Crimson grabbed a 2-1 edge after a quarter and never trailed again. Junior Melissa Sesana added the other goal, while Schou stopped a season-high 14 shots.
