March 2, 2013
ERIE, Pa. - The George Washington water polo team dropped its CWPA Southern Division opener, falling to Brown, 15-12, at the Mercyhurst North East Aquatic Center.
Brown took a 3-1 lead after the first quarter, but GW (6-6) outscored the Bears, 6-4, in the second to force a 7-7 tie at the break. Brown pulled ahead, 10-8, at the end of the third period, and while the Colonials were able to cut their deficit to just one with 5:28 remaining in the fourth quarter, the Bears scored four of the final six goals of the game for the 15-12 win.
Freshman Hannah Cox, the reigning Southern Division Rookie of the Week, tallied four goals - her fifth straight game with at least four goals. Freshman Erin Donoghue and junior Megan Brolley each scored twice, and sophomore Meagan Moreland recorded four assists and three steals.
