WASHINGTON, DC - Junior Allison Peotter's second goal of the game pulled the George Washington women's water polo team even at 7-7 with 13 seconds left in the third quarter, but No. 20 Maryland tallied six seconds later and closed with a 3-0 run to defeat the Colonials, 10-7, at Charles E. Smith Center Pool Friday night.

The back-and-forth battle featured four ties and a pair of lead changes, the final one coming with the Terrapins' go-ahead goal with seven seconds left before the end of the third quarter.

GW (2-5) led 1-0 and 2-1 early in the first quarter only to have Maryland (6-4) close the period with a 4-1 spurt for a 5-3 lead. The Colonials held the Terrapins scoreless in the second period and trailed 5-4 at halftime.

After falling behind by two, GW clawed back to 6-6 with 2:42 left in the third and again at 7-7 on Peotter's game-tying goal.

Juniors Megan Walker and Monica Hanson joined Peotter with two goals and freshman Katherine Berry also tallied. Senior Charlotte Schou made 11 saves for GW, which plays No. 14 Hartwick and Princeton in Princeton, NJ, on Saturday.
