March 6, 2004

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington women's water polo team posted a 2-1 record Friday and Saturday at the CWPA Weekend matches at the Smith Center pool. GW defeated Villanova, 10-7, Friday before dropping a close 9-5 deision to Princeton on Saturday followed by a 6-2 victory over Bucknell also Saturday.

The Villanova game was tight throughout as neither team could take more than a one-goal lead. In the 4th period that would change as GW put on the defensive pressure and limit Villanova to only two more goals while GW's offense finally got going and exploded for four 4th-period goals. The Colonials won the game, 10-7, with junior Kendra Shanely scoring a game-high five goals and senior Elisabeth Schweitzer recording a career-high six assists.
