Women's Water Polo Crushes Villanova, 15-5

WASHINGTON, DC (March 10, 2001) - Women's water polo played their best match of the day, closing out the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) meet at Smith Center Saturday, March 9.

The Colonials (9-4, 2-1 CWPA) never trailed in the final match of the day, racing out to a 4-1 lead over the Wildcats after the first quarter, and posting a 9-4 lead at the halfway point. GW never let VU back in the contest in the second half, holding the Wildcats to one goal in the last two periods, while notching six more scores of their own to record their ninth victory of the season.

Sophomore Mia Fabian would add to her impressive goal total for the meet, which stood at five goals heading into the nightcap versus the Wildcats, with six more scores against VU. Fabian performed well versus the Wildcats last season, setting a single-game record of eight goals on March 4, 2001 against VU.

Junior Ashley Pyka scored three goals of her own to bolster the attack in a game that Coach Scott Reed called "their best game of the day," that was a "fantastic effort overall".

The Colonials enter a brief lull in their schedule, with their next match occurring at the Villanova Invitational on Saturday, March 23. Their opponents for the invite have yet to be announced.
