GW Women's Water Polo Falls to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 13-10

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The George Washington women's water polo team fell to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, the top-ranked team in Division III, by a score of 13-10 on Tuesday evening at the Athenas' Axelrod Pool.

The teams traded goals in the first quarter, which ended in a 3-3 tie, but CMS scored three straight goals to start the second to take a 6-3 lead. Senior Rachael Bentley scored GW's lone goal of the period with 1:26 remaining to make it 6-4 at halftime.

Like the first, the Colonials and Athenas alternated goals throughout the entire third quarter and CMS held a 9-7 advantage after 24 minutes. Another goal by Bentley to start the fourth brought GW (7-11) within one, 9-8, but CMS scored three of the final four goals of the game for the 13-10 win.

Senior Allison Littlejohn and sophomore Hannah Cox each scored three goals while Bentley had two and junior goalkeeper Chandler Vilander recorded nine saves in the cage.

The Colonials conclude their West Coast trip with two games on Wednesday against Concordia (1 p.m. ET) and Cal Lutheran (7 p.m. ET) in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
