LEWISBURG, PA - For the second time in as many meetings this season, the George Washington women's water polo team held a halftime lead against CWPA Southern Division rival Bucknell, but couldn't hang on as the Bison again pulled away in the second half to defeat the Colonials, 10-7, at Kinney Natatorium Saturday.

GW (7-10, 0-2 CWPA Southern Division) led by as many as two goals in the first half, but Bucknell managed to close within a goal, 5-4, at halftime and used a 4-1 run in the third quarter to pull away in the second half. The Colonials similarly held a one-goal lead, 7-6, at intermission before the Bison went on a 5-1 second-half run for an 11-8 victory in the teams' most recent meeting at Smith Center March 11.

Tied at 6-6 late in the third quarter, Bucknell (11-7, 3-0 CWPA Southern Division) scored twice in the final 43 seconds of the period for an 8-6 advantage and would cap a stretch of five unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to remain atop the league standings.

Senior Tara Sullivan and sophomore Megan Walker led the offense with two goals apiece, with senior Bernadette Karandy, junior Melissa Sesana and sophomore Allison Peotter each adding one. Junior goalkeeper Charlotte Schou finished with 13 saves.

GW returns to Smith Center Pool Wednesday to host Maryland in Southern Division action at 7:00 pm.
