Hooker, Burnett Set Program Marks for Women's Water Polo on Saturday

March 31, 2007

WASHINGTON, DC - Senior Morgan Hooker totaled six goals to become the women's water polo program's all-time leading goal scorer, but George Washington dropped a pair of Collegiate Water Polo Association contests to Bucknell, 10-8, and No. 16 Princeton, 13-3, at Smith Center Pool on Saturday.

Hooker moved past Kira Canon's 164 career goals and now has 166 with two regular-season games remaining. Hooker's senior teammate Jenna Burnett also became the program's all-time assist leader with four assists in the two games. Burnett now has 95 career assists.

Hooker led all scorers with five goals in Saturday's opener, but Bucknell built a 5-2 lead through two quarters and an 8-4 edge after 24 minutes. GW (6-17, 0-4 CWPA Southern Division) outscored the Bison 4-2 in the fourth quarter, but could not complete the comeback. Burnett had three assists, while freshman Emily Chereson added two goals and rookie Danielle Mayer netted one. Junior goalkeeper Julie Jacoby finished with nine saves.

In Saturday's late game, the Colonials fell behind No. 16 Princeton 5-0 after the first quarter and managed just one goal in each of the final three periods in their 13-3 loss. Hooker had two goals, including the record-breaker with 1:31 left in the second quarter via an assist from Burnett. Sophomore Amy Moren tallied the other GW goal and Jacoby turned away 12 shots. GW failed to convert any of its nine man-up opportunities against the Tigers.

GW finishes its regular season against these same Bucknell and Princeton squads in Lewisburg, PA, on April 14. The Colonials will battle the Tigers at 12:00 pm and visit the Bison at 5:00 pm.
