GW Women's Water Polo Wraps Up Regular Season with Saturday Split
Colonials will be Fifth Seed in Next Weekend's Southern Division Championship

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The George Washington women's water polo team concluded its regular season by splitting a pair of games on Saturday at the University of Maryland's Eppley Recreation Center Natatorium. The Colonials defeated Salem International, 13-8, before falling to Bucknell, 14-12.
GW (9-12, 1-4 Southern) will be the No. 5 seed in next weekend's Southern Division Championship, where the Colonials will face nationally ranked Princeton, the top seed, in the first round.
The Colonials jumped out to a 5-0 lead against SIU and led, 8-3, at halftime.
Junior Jessie Hurd led GW with three goals, while sophomore Kayley Marshall scored twice and added three steals and sophomore Rachael Bentley tallied three assists. Freshman goalie Jessie Sinkula recorded five saves in her first career start.
After falling to Bucknell, 16-8 and 14-5, in the teams' first two meetings of the season, the Colonials kept it close throughout in the final game of the day.
The Bison led, 4-3, after the first quarter and were up just two, 7-5, at halftime. GW outscored Bucknell, 4-3, in the fourth quarter, but could not complete its comeback in the 14-12 loss.
Sophomore Katherine Berry and senior Monica Hanson each scored four goals to lead the Colonials, while Bentley added three assists, three ejections drawn and two steals and sophomore Allison Littlejohn amassed five steals while adding a goal. Freshman goalie Chandler Vilander stopped four saves in the cage. GW was 5-for-8 on man-up opportunities.
