Women's Water Polo Falls to No. 7 Michigan, 12-6
April 17, 2010
COLLEGE PARK, MD - Facing its highest ranked opponent of the season, the George Washington women's water polo team allowed the opening five goals en route to a 12-6 loss to No. 7 Michigan at Maryland's Eppley Recreation Center Saturday afternoon. GW (7-14, 0-5 CWPA Southern Division) found itself down 5-0 and trailed 6-1 after a quarter and wouldn't get any closer despite limiting UM's offense over the final 24 minutes. The Wolverines outscored the Colonials, 6-5, over the next two periods and neither team scored in the fourth quarter for the 12-6 final margin. Sophomore Allison Peotter scored two goals, followed by one apiece from seniors Marissa Stamler and Emily Chereson and sophomore Megan Walker. Michigan, which has won 14 straight games to improve to 26-6 overall, had eight different players score, led by Kiki Golden's hat trick. GW plays its final regular season and home game of 2010 Sunday when it welcomes Princeton to Smith Center Pool at 12:00 pm. The Colonials will recognize seniors Stamler, Chereson, Bernadette Karandy and Sarah Fitch prior to the match.
