Women's Water Polo Concludes Season at CWPA Southern Championships

April 24, 2007

COLLEGE PARK, MD - George Washington seniors Morgan Hooker and Jenna Burnett concluded standout careers as the Colonials' women's water polo team ended its season with a pair of losses at the CWPA Southern Division Championships in College Park, MD, on Saturday, April 21.

GW fell to No. 16 Princeton, 11-2, in the semifinals before bowing out to Bucknell, 11-3, in Saturday's third place game. Hooker and sophomore Jackie Friedberger tallied against the Tigers, while junior Kathryn Shehan, sophomore Amy Moren and freshman Bernadette Karandy scored versus the Bison.

Junior goalkeeper Julie Jacoby registered 22 saves over the two games to bring her season total to a program-record 290, surpassing Lisa Greenfield's old mark of 241 set in 2002.

Hooker's goal upped her program-record career total to 170, while her 192 career points ranks fourth all-time. Burnett posted an assist against the Bison to bring her season total to 33, one shy of the single-season mark of 34 set by Heather Walenga in 2001. Burnett finishes her career with a program-best 99 assists and 186 points, good for fifth all-time.

GW finishes the 2007 season with a 6-21 overall mark, with victories against Iona, Queens (NY), Siena, Villanova, Macalester and Whittier.
