BLOOMINGTON, IN - The George Washington women's water polo team outscored Bucknell, 4-1, in the second quarter to take a 5-3 lead at intermission, but the Bison used a 7-3 run in the second half to defeat the Colonials, 10-8, in the seventh-place game of the CWPA Eastern Championship at Indiana's Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center Sunday morning.

No. 8 seed GW completes the 2011 season with a 7-20 overall record after posting its fifth eighth-place finish at the event (2001, 2002, 2004, 2005). 10th-seeded Bucknell improves its season-ending record to 13-18.

Tied 3-3 in the second quarter, freshman Katherine Berry converted a five-meter penalty shot to give the Colonials a 4-3 lead. GW called a timeout after Berry's go-ahead goal, but a fire alarm sounded during the stoppage and the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center had to be cleared before play could resume.

The teams' returned some 15 minutes later and junior center Megan Walker tallied a man-advantage goal with 59 seconds left before the break for the 5-3 halftime lead.

Bucknell took the momentum with two early goals to begin the second half to knot it at 5-5, but GW responded with junior Allison Peotter's second goal of the game and another from freshman Megan Brolley for a 7-5 lead with 3:42 to go in the period.

The Bison managed to tie the game again at 7-7 heading into the fourth quarter and seized control for good with three straight goals in the final period to send the Colonials into a 10-7 deficit.

Peotter capped her hat trick with 42 seconds remaining to produce the 10-8 final and finish the season with a team-leading 53 goals, the fourth-most in one season in program history.

Senior goalkeeper Charlotte Schou made nine saves to finish with 247 this season, the fourth-highest single-season total in program history. She also ends her career with a program-best 816 saves.
