Women's Water Polo Announces 2018 Schedule
Colonials set slate for first season under Head Coach Barry King
WASHINGTON - George Washington women's water polo revealed its 2018 schedule Thursday, highlighted by a pair of home contests and a March trip to California.
In their first spring under Head Coach Barry King, the Colonials will have a 27-game regular season to get ready for the Collegiate Water Polo Association Championship, which will be hosted by Bucknell from April 27-29. They're set for nine games against teams that closed last season nationally ranked in the CWPA Top 25.
"This is a good, balanced schedule," King said. "The preseason presents some great challenges that will certainly help us get ready to be the best team that we can be in April during CWPA play."
GW kicks off the season February 10 at the Bucknell Invitational with a 1 p.m. matchup against Siena. The Colonials will also face Gannon, Saint Francis (Pa.) and defending MAAC champion Wagner as part of the event.
The Princeton Invitational follows Feb. 16-18 with four games over three days, including another showdown with the Seahawks.
GW makes its only appearance of the season at Charles E. Smith Center Pool on Feb. 24 with home games against Princeton and Villanova. The times for those contests will be announced later.
Next, the Colonials head to California for three games at Cal Baptist's Lancer Invitational on March 9-10. They'll finish their West Coast trip with a road contest at Long Beach State the next day.
GW continues its season closer to home with a March 17 trip to VMI for games against the host Keydets and Gannon. The Colonials then travel to St. Francis (Pa.) on March 24-25 to face the host Red Flash, Bucknell and Harvard.
CWPA play begins at Harvard April 7-8 with four games, highlighted by a matchup against defending conference champion Michigan.
GW wraps the regular season the following weekend at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool, facing the host Tigers, Harvard, Bucknell and Brown in CWPA contests over two days.
The Colonials will then have two weeks to prepare for the CWPA Championship, which will feature all nine conference members at Bucknell's Kinney Natatorium in Lewisburg, Pa. The winner earns an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament, which begins May 5 at campus sites.
