GW Women's Water Polo Kicks Off Preseason
Colonials Begin Preparation for Feb. 9 Season Opener Against Nationally Ranked Princeton, California
Jan. 16, 2013
WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's water polo team began preseason training this week at the Charles E. Smith Center Pool in preparation for the 2013 campaign.
"The team came back in good shape, and at each practice that we've had, they've put out a lot of effort," said 14th-year head coach Scott Reed. "We have a majority of the team returning, so I'm looking forward to building on that foundation."
GW lost just two letterwinners from last year's squad, which posted a 12-15 overall record and placed ninth at the CWPA Eastern Championship. The Colonials return three of their top four scorers, including junior Rachael Bentley, who set single-season program records with 99 points and 50 assists in 2012, as well as classmate and 50-goal scorer Katherine Berry.
Also returning to the pool is graduate student Allison Peotter, a three-time All-Southern Division honoree and GW's all-time leader in assists and steals who missed the entire 2012 season while rehabbing a shoulder injury.
The Colonials open the 2013 campaign at the Princeton Invitational on Feb. 9-10, highlighted by matchups against nationally ranked Princeton and California on opening day. GW hosts three matches at the Charles E. Smith Center Pool, with games against defending Eastern champion Princeton (March 8), Villanova (March 23) and VMI (April 20).
