Bentley Named CWPA Southern Division Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, PA - George Washington women's water polo freshman attack Rachael Bentley was chosen the CWPA Southern Division Rookie of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Junior teammate Monica Hanson was named to the South's Player of the Week Honor Roll as well.

Bentley totaled six goals on 50 percent shooting, four assists, four steals and two ejections drawn in her first four collegiate games to earn her first weekly award.

A native of Riverside, CA, Bentley recorded her first collegiate hat trick with three goals, an assist and two steals in a 15-7 win against Villanova Sunday. In addition, she chipped in two goals, an assist and two steals against Colorado State Saturday, and a goal and two assists against No. 19 Pacific Sunday.

Hanson paced GW with seven goals on 58 percent shooting and added three assists, two blocks and two ejections drawn in four games during opening weekend. The Oakland, CA, native converted all five of her shots, including three ejection goals, for a career-best five goals and six points to lead the Colonials to the 15-6 victory over the Wildcats Sunday.

GW (1-3) plays two games this weekend in College Park, MD. The Colonials face Bucknell Saturday at 11:00 am and Wagner Sunday at 11:00 am.
