Women’s Water Polo Set for Four Games in Three Days

SETTING THE SCENE: The GW women’s water polo team plays four games in three days in Pennsylvania this weekend as it faces Saint Francis on Friday at 7pm before taking on Bucknell, Grove City and Siena in the Mercyhurst Invitational in Erie, Saturday and Sunday.

LAST TIME OUT: GW split four games at the Bison Invitational last weekend, taking wins over Mercyhurst and Gannon before falling to a pair of ranked opponents in No. 21 Harvard and No. 11 Princeton.

FRESH FACES: Six freshmen made their collegiate debuts last weekend with several making big impacts. Ally Jochim led the Colonials with nine goals, providing consistency with at least one goal in each of the four games including three vs. Gannon and Harvard. Classmate Kira Bruno had seven goals on the weekend, and in the cage, Samantha Runyon tallied 14 saves over the final three games.

JUNIOR JOLT: GW’s top two scorers from last season, Scarlett Hallahan and Jacqueline Bywater, spurred the season-opening win over Mercyhurst by scoring six goals and five goals, respectively. Bywater also had a team-best 14 steals while Hallahan led the way with eight assists.

 

 

LOOK AHEAD: GW plays just one game in the next two weeks, at VMI on March 4, before coming home to host the GW Invitational March 10-11 in the Charles E. Smith Center Pool.

WASHINGTON -- The George Washington women's water polo team rallied from a three-goal deficit to take a lead in the fourth quarter, but Bucknell prevailed in overtime, 15-13, in CWPA action on Sunday morning at the Charles E. Smith Center Pool.

GW Women's Water Polo Splits on First Day of Villanova Invite
VILLANOVA, Pa. - The George Washington women's water polo team split a pair of games on the first day of the Villanova Invitational on Saturday. The Colonials defeated Siena by a score of 12-10, then dropped a tight match to Iona, 15-14.
