BRIDGEPORT, Pa. - George Washington freshman Hannah Cox was named Southern Division Player and Rookie of the Week for games played Feb. 25-March 3, the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) announced Wednesday.

Cox repeats as the league's top rookie after garnering the same honor last week. In all, Colonial freshmen have won the award three weeks in a row, as Erin Donoghue was tabbed Rookie of the Week on Feb. 20. In addition, Cox is the second Colonial to be named Player of the Week this season, joining junior Rachael Bentley two weeks ago, but she is the first GW freshman to be named Player of the Week since Allison Peotter on March 24, 2009.

Cox led GW to a 2-1 weekend with 12 goals and six ejections drawn in three Southern Division matchups at the Mercyhurst North East Aquatic Center in Erie, Pa. She scored four goals and drew three ejections against Brown, then exploded for a career-high six goals on seven shots in GW's 11-3 win over Bucknell - her sixth straight game with at least four tallies. It was the most goals scored by a Colonial rookie since 2004 and just the seventh time in program history that a GW player scored as many as six goals in a game.

Cox concluded the weekend with two goals, two ejections drawn and a steal in the Colonials' 7-6 win over Mercyhurst. The native of Surrey, British Columbia leads GW with 38 goals this season and ranks second on the team with 38 points and 19 ejections drawn.

GW (8-6) hosts 12th-ranked Princeton on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Charles E. Smith Center Pool.
