GW's Erin Donoghue Nabs Second Southern Division Rookie of the Week
Freshman Scored Game-Winner Against Villanova
March 27, 2013
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. - George Washington freshman Erin Donoghue was named Southern Division Rookie of the Week for games played March 18-24, the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) announced on Wednesday.
Donoghue scored a team-high four goals, including the game-winner, to lead GW to a 9-8 victory over Villanova in its lone game of the week, adding an assist for a team-best five points. Donoghue scored one goal in each quarter, and three of her goals came in extra-man situations. The Walnut Creek, Calif., native tallied the game-winner on a power play with one minute remaining in regulation.
For the season, Donoghue ranks second on the team with 35 goals, including a team-high 20 ejection goals. She also ranks fifth on the team with 46 points, 19 steals and 11 ejections drawn.
This marks Donoghue's second Rookie of the Week award, as she also earned the honor on Feb. 20. In all, Colonial freshmen have been recognized as the league's top rookie a school-record five times this season, as Hannah Cox has garnered the distinction three times.
GW (12-11, 2-2 Southern) has the week off before returning to the pool on April 6, to take on VMI and Southern Division rival Harvard at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool.
