April 1, 2005

WASHINGTON, DC - The Colonials women's water polo team (10-8, 3-2 CWPA Southern) is the eighth seed for this weekend's ECAC Championship, which will take place on April 2-3 in Lewisburg, PA. GW will square off against the top seed, Hartwick (15-6, 5-0 CWPA Northern), in the first game of the tournament on April 2 at 9:00 a.m.

The Colonials are ranked eighth in the latest CWPA Top 10 poll and are fresh off a 10-9 win against local league foe Maryland on March 30. GW is also riding a four-game winning streak.

As of the last statistical reporting period, GW sophomore Jenna Burnett was ranked 40th in the nation in goals scored with 28. Classmate Morgan Hooker notched three goals versus the Terrapins to up her season total to 26, which ranks second on the team. Junior goalie Amy Heinemann is 18th in the country with 117 saves.

Hartwick is ranked 15th nationally and has won four of its last six games. Its only losses in that stretch both came against ranked foes. Hartwick lost to No. 7 UC-Berkeley, 9-7, on March 30 and No. 14 UC-Davis, 10-9, on March 29.

Kate Chambers is the squad's top scorer with 56 points (30g, 26a) and Bronwen Knox ranks second on the team with 49 points and leads Hartwick with 41 goals. Olivia Colebourne, the team's goalkeeper, is 16th in the country with 121 saves on the year.

In last year's ECAC Championship, the Colonials finished fourth. They defeated Harvard, 7-6, in overtime before losing to Hartwick, 11-4, and Princeton, 14-3.

The winner of the GW/Hartwick match will advance to meet either Brown or Bucknell at 7:00 p.m. on April 2.
