CAMBRIDGE, MA - George Washington women's water polo driver Allison Peotter was named to the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) All-Southern Division First Team, the league office announced at its Eastern Championship banquet Friday evening. Peotter becomes the first freshman chosen first team in the program's 10-year history.
Junior driver Marissa Stamler earned Second Team honors for the second consecutive season, the eighth Colonial to earn all-conference accolades in back-to-back years.
Peotter, who is GW's first first-team selection since Morgan Hooker in 2006, enjoyed one of the finest freshman seasons in program history, pacing the Colonials in goals, assists, points, steals and swim-offs won. She set single-season records with 35 assists and 70 swim-offs, while her 84 points and 75 steals were the third-most in one season in program history. Peotter was chosen CWPA Southern Division Rookie of the Week three times and became the first player in league history to earn Player and Rookie of the Week honors in the same week on March 24.
Stamler finished second on the team with 42 goals and 27 assists for 69 points and set a new single-season mark with 13 field blocks. She also ranked third on the team with 33 steals and 28 ejections drawn.
GW (6-21) knocked off Bucknell in the consolation game of the CWPA Southern Division Championship to place third at the event, its highest finish since 2005.
