Women's Water Polo Players Named to American Water Polo Coaches Association All-Academic Teams

June 13, 2002

WASHINGTON, DC - Five members of the George Washington University women's water polo program were named to the American Water Polo Coaches Association (AWCPA) and the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) All-Academic Teams for their outstanding work in the classroom.

All-Academic honors were awarded based on three levels: Excellent (3.20-3.40), Superior (3.41-3.70), and Outstanding (3.71-4.0). Junior Juli Marhefka (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) were named to the AWPCA and CWPA All-Academic Outstanding Team. Juniors Kiersten Johnson (Costa Mesa, CA/Newport Harbor) and Ashley Pyka (El Toro, CA/El Toro) were named to the All-Academic Superior Teams with senior Elisabeth Kuhl (St. Louis, MO/Mary Institute) and sophomore Danielle Allen (Palo Alto, CA/Gunn HS) earned spots on the AWPCA and CWPA All-Academic Excellent Teams.

The AWPCA also named GW's team as the seventh-ranked team in the nation academically, with a combined GPA of 3.25.
