Women's Water Polo Receives American Water Polo Coaches Association Academic Honors
June 18, 2003 WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University women's program was recognized by the American Water Polo Coaches Association (AWPCA) when it received team honors for achieving an overall GPA of 3.35 for the 2000-01 season, ranking them sixth in the nation.
To qualify, teams must earn a 2.75 or better team GPA for the academic year. Individual honors were awarded based on three levels to comprise the All-Academic teams: Excellent (3.20-3.40), Superior (3.41-3.70), and Outstanding (3.71-4.0). Juli Marhefka earned a spot on the Outstanding team. Amy Heinemann, Kiersten Johnson, Taraneh Bastani and Ashley Pyka were all named to the AWPCA All-Academic Superior Team and Elisabeth Schweitzer and Kira Canon earned recognition on the AWPCA All-Academic Excellent Team.
