Women's Water Polo Signs Bernadette Karandy to National Letter of Intent

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University women's water polo team has signed Bernadette Karandy (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) to a National Letter of Intent, head coach Scott Reed has announced. Karandy, a senior at St. Mary's High, competes for the Naval Academy Aquatics Club and will join the Colonials' roster for the 2007 season.

"Bernadette will be a great addition to the GW Water Polo program," Reed said. "Navy AC is one of the top club teams in the country. With her vast experience and tough physical play, Bernadette will add a new demension of play to the team."

In 2004, Karandy was selected to play for the Northeast Junior Team and also invited to tryout for the Junior National Team for the second straight year. She also competed for the Northeast Youth Team in 2003.

GW closed out its 2005 campaign with a 13-17 overall record, while placing two individuals on the CWPA Southern Division All-Conference teams, including junior Morgan Hooker (Woodland Hills, CA) who earned second-team accolades. The Colonials open the 2006 season at the Maryland Invitational, Sat.-Sun., Feb. 11-12, in College Park, MD.
